Nov 17 th... U-10 KILLER B's vs.
Salem
W 7-2
The Bees Get Their First Win 7-2.
The Marblehead U10 girls Killer Bees team squared off
against the Salem last Saturday at the Soccer Etc. arena
in Beverly. Not surprisingly, the first half of the
game between the neighboring rivals was highly
contested. Mariah E., Alana G., Sophie M., Katie P. and
Hayli P. came out to play and immediately put some heavy
pressure on the Salem goal, but came away empty as
Salem’s goal tender made some great saves. Not to be
denied, however, Katie P. put a strong shot on net and
Olivia F. quickly shot the rebound into the net for
Marblehead’s first score of the afternoon midway through
the half. Another soon would follow as Hayli P.
positioned herself perfectly in front of the Salem net
and drilled home a pass from Bridget C. to give the
Killer Bees their second goal. Alana G. made some
terrific saves and held Salem scoreless going into the
half.
Salem opened the second half
with some renewed determination and Marblehead again
displayed some tenacious defense, relying on the
quickness of Eve R., Diamond B.and Emily K.to keep Salem
at bay. The Killer Bees then returned to offensive
swarm mode and Julia D. put the Bees on the board again
with some quick footwork and a stinging shot past the
Salem tender. Marblehead continued its onslaught with a
flurry of shots on goal by Olivia F., Mariah E., Eliza
H. and Sophie M.. In the midst of the action, Katie P.
received a stinger of her own when a hard-kicked ball
hit her in the face causing a short break in the
action. Displaying great courage she was back in the
thick of things in no time. Salem used the break to
regroup and then employed some fancy footwork of its own
to get on the board for the first time about ten minutes
into the second half. Marblehead wasted no time getting
it back, though, as Bridget C. entered the game,
recovered a loose ball down in the corner and quickly
fired it into the Salem net, regaining Marblehead’s
three-goal advantage. Salem continued to battle and
closed the margin to two again with ten minutes left to
play. That’s when Julia D. flew back into action and in
a flash scored two more goals, giving the Killer B's a
commanding 6-2 lead. Still not satisfied, the voracious
B's would score one more time, when Hayli P. scored her
second goal of the afternoon to cap off a 7-2 victory.
