Nov 11 th... U-14 MAGIC vs
Gloucester T 5-5
Team Magic is off to a fast start
in the first session of U-14 Indoor soccer season with a
1-0-1 record. In its first battle, the Magic fought to
a 5-5 tie against a quick, strong and aggressive
Rockport team. The Magic started strong. Kendall B
scored her first of four goals on a direct kick. The
Magic took a 2-0 lead when Kendall B received a terrific
lead pass from Mary L and buried it in the back of the
Rockport goal. Rockport, however, answered with a goal
of its own making it 2-1 with 10 minutes left in the
first half. Kendall, however, was not done scoring
goals. She scored two more goals on terrific passes
from Sonya R, Halle W and Faye H.
Rockport, however, did not wilt
under the attack. Instead, they opened the second half
with an offensive barrage of their own, scoring several
goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half. The
Magic responded with their fifth goal with 7 minutes
left in the game. Unfortunately, the Magic could not
contain the Rockport offense. The game was tied with 5
minutes left. Thanks to the hustle of Ainsley P. and
the outstanding defensive efforts of Pamela G., and
Abbey B. as well as several exceptional saves from Annie
R, the Magic were able to hold-off the end of the game
Rockport attack.
Nov
18 th... U-14 MAGIC vs
Lynnfield W 6-1
The Magic’s second game saw a
balanced offensive attack and superb defense. As a
result, the Magic cruised to a 6-1 victory over
Lynnfield. The girls scored 4 goals in the first half
and added another two in the early part of the second
half. Again, the defining characteristic of the game
was exceptional passing. Julia R. started the
offensive barrage by scoring two goals. The first was
assisted by Annie R. and the second the result of a
terrific crossing pass from Sarah C. Mary Lindsay R.
set-up Abbey B. for two scores and Mary K. was
instrumental in Tori S’s goal that put the Magic up
5-0. Halle Watkin completed the Magic scoring by
drilling a kick through the Lynnfield goalie’s legs
mid-way through the second half.
The Magic forwards were able to
play aggressively on the offensive side of the field
because they were buffeted by outstanding defense play,
particularly from Molly S. and Faye H., and exceptional
goaltending from Pamela G., Julia R. and Annie R.
Every time Lynnfield had an offensive rush into the
Magic’s zone, the Magic defenders were able to take
control of the ball and clear the zone, often setting-up
a Magic counter-attack. The only defensive blemish came
when Lynnfield caught the Magic in a line change and
scored late in the game
