U-12 LIGHTNING vs.
Swampscott
T 3-3
It was a great start
to the 2nd session for the newly
formed Lightning team last night, when they tied
a strong Swampscott team 3-3. Newcomer, Jesse P
would get the first (unassisted) goal of the
night to put
Marblehead on top 1-0 at
15:25. Goalie Lily E. was outstanding, shutting
out Swampscott for the first 23 minutes of the
game. Swampscott would score their first goal
with just over a minute to go in the half, to
leave the score tied at the half.
The second half was
a real nail biter; both teams had numerous shots
on goal. Swampscott would score first at 10:05
to take the lead. It wasn’t long before
Marblehead would tie, when Bridgette M
scored on an assist from Abby L at 8:45. The
game now tied at 2. Maddie A. was in goal for
the Lightning for the second half, making
multiple saves, to keep the game tied.
Unfortunately, a penalty shot for Swampscott
with just over 5 minutes left would put
Swampscott on top 3-2. It was a great team
effort for the Lightning, Becca D. Sydney C.,
Ally B., Kelsey M., Jess A all worked together
to keep Swampscott from scoring any more
goals. Luckily with just a couple of minutes
left in the game, Ab by L would score on an
assist from another newcomer Hana L to tie the
game, for a final score of 3-3.

U-12 LIGHTNING vs.
Dan. destroyers
W 5-4
Marblehead’s Team Lightning played the Danvers
Destroyers Wednesday night for what turned out to be
an action packed game. The first half started with
strong offensive playing by Emily F., Ally B., and
Lily E and a strong defensive line of Becca D., Mady
A., Brigette M. and Jessie P. The ball was being
played equally in both ends of the field. But
Danvers scored in the first 7 minutes into the game
with a hard hit ball into the upper corner taking
the lead 1-0. Just 3 minutes later, Ally B. fired
back when she took the ball up the middle of the
field on a break away scoring for Lightning to tie
up the game 1-1. Marblehead’s Lightning showcased
great passing and teamwork throughout the game.
Abby L. assisted a goal by Hanna L. who took the
perfect position to score giving Marblehead the lead
2-1. Emily F. and Ally B. continued their strong
pursuit of another goal as Emily scores with an
assist from Ally making the score 3-1 and just a few
minutes later, Ally scores Lightning’s fourth goal
with an assist from Emily. Danvers turned on the
heat in the last 4 minutes of the game with several
shots on goal but an aggressive Jessica A. as goalie
saved some hard hit shots and tackled the ball
whenever possible shutting out the Danvers team for
the last 18 minutes of the half.
Starting the 2nd half of the game with a
3 goal lead, Marblehead felt confident. They kept
the ball in the Danvers end for most of the first 10
minutes. Becca D., Mady A., and Brigette M took some
nice shots on goal. Danvers also took an aggressive
run at scoring but Abby L. was in goal to make some
strong saves. Eight minutes into the half, Emily F.
received a rebound shot by Mady A. to score her
second goal of the night, leaving the score 5-1.
But Danvers was about to make a comeback. Despite
Marblehead’s strong defensive line of Lily E., Hanna
L., Kelsey M. and Jessica A. they were able to score
3 more times on Marblehead. The last few minutes of
the game were filled with excitement as Lightning
refused to let up and finally took the win 5-4.
Lightning will play the first place Beverly team
next Wednesday at 6:30pm.

U-12 LIGHTNING vs.
Bev. Strikers.. L 3-8
It was a tough night for the
Lightning as they took on a powerful Beverly
team. The first half was dominated by Beverly
as they scored 2 quick goals in the first minute
and a half. Beverly was relentless in their
desire to score goals and keeping the ball away
from the Marblehead offense. In goal for
Marblehead was Emily F who was just bombarded
with shots, deflecting many attempts. The
only Marblehead goal in the first half was on a
breakaway from Michaela L. However, Beverly
would quickly come back with 2 more goals to end
the first half ahead 5-1.
Maddy A.
was in goal for Marblehead for the second half,
holding Beverly from scoring for the first 10
minutes. The aggressive Beverly team would
continue dominating the game and score 3 more
goals. The Marblehead offense was able to score
in the last 4 minutes with 2 goals by Bridgette
M. The first goal was on an assist by Michaela L
and the second on a penalty kick. The final
score 8-3 Beverly

Marblehead’s Team Lightning played
Gloucester Wednesday night. Gloucester came
out first to score 1-0 three minutes into
the first half. But with nice passes
between them, the offensive line of Becca
D., Emily F. and Maddy A. took the ball back
to Gloucester’s end where Becca D. fired a
shot from the side six minutes later to tie
the score 1-1. Then one minute later, Emily
F. scored with a hard shot out front to take
the lead for Marblehead 2-1. Ally B., Lily
E. Jessie P., and Abby L. displayed great
defensive moves with Michaela L. in goal to
make some nice saves. Maddy A. scored next
for Marblehead with a ball off the boards
3-1. With 8 minutes left in the half, Ally
B. and Jessica A. played solid offense
together as Ally B. made a nice pass to
assist a goal by Jessica A. giving
Marblehead an even greater lead 4-1. And
two minutes later, Jessica A. returned the
favor by making a nice pass to Ally B. who
scored Lightning’s 5th goal.
Gloucester fired back before the half was
over with a goal making the score 5-2. But
Abby L. was in the right position in front
of the net to kick in a ball hit off the
boards giving her a goal as well as a great
setup of passes by Ally B. over to Jessica
A. over to Lily E. who scored, ending the
half 7-2.
Lightning felt confident going into the
second half with a nice lead. Michaela L.,
Emily F., Jesse P. and Maddy A. showed some
great passing throughout the half, keeping
the ball from Gloucester. However, with 12
minutes left, Gloucester got their 3rd
goal. Lily E. showcased her footwork around
the defensive players and was eventually
able to score her second goal of the game,
now 8-3. The ball was now being played
equally in both ends of the field.
Gloucester scored one more time giving them
their 4th goal. With three
minutes left in the half, Lily E. made a
great pass to Jessica A. who scored her 2nd
goal of the night also and with just seconds
remaining, Jessie P. took a ball that hit
off the boards and knocked in the final goal
of the night. Marblehead took an easy win
10-4. Lightning will play the Marblehead
Hurricanes next week which should be an
exciting game between the two home teams.

U-12 HURRICANES...
L 2-4
On a date that
was circled on many calendars for months, last Wednesday
night’s clash of two Marblehead U-12A Titans team
lightning and hurricanes did not disappoint. Lightning
struck first 5 minutes into the game with a nifty goal
by Lilly E, who somehow found the handle in a crowded
box. Not to be denied, the Hurricanes came roaring
through the building with back to back scores from
Eliza Q.& Sara S.. So the score remained until the
Lightning again defied science by striking in the same
spot thanks to some skilled foot work by Brigitte M.
With the game tied 2-2, both defenses buckled down and
some of the best play this season continued for the next
10 minutes or so, proving that the game can be at its
most exciting even in the absence of goal-scoring. The
goalies on both teams were tremendous, Sydney C & Hannah
V for the Hurricanes and Abby L., along with Allie B for
the Lightning. Eventually, Hurricane winds started to
swirl and reached its crescendo with Sydney C. netting
the game winner with 10 minutes left. Kaitlin M.
benefited from great team wok and a nice assist
delivered by Sarah R. & Mia S. to score the final goal
which gave the Hurricanes some breathing room down the
stretch, as finally, the skies cleared and manna (in the
form of a combined pizza party) fell from the heavens.
Both opposing coaches put a positive spin on the
event with Coach Attridge of the Lightning indicating
his players learned some lessons by playing hard in
spite of the loss, while Coach Butler hopes to carry
some momentum forward into the playoffs and beyond. At
the end of the day, Marblehead soccer was the biggest
winner of all.
