U-12 HURRICANES vs. Bev.
United W 4-3
The Hurricanes opened up their 2nd
session with a well played game against Beverly United
on January 23rd. This is the first session that
these girls have played together as MHD Indoor shuffled
players and for the first time in the history of the
league has placed two teams in the U12 A-division..
Hurricanes are excited to join team Lightning in this
division.
The Hurricanes scored early and often
over the length of the game leading throughout.
All the girls did outstanding as they adjusted to new
team members and new coaches. The Hurricanes had a
secure lead of 4-1 until the last 4 minutes of play.
Beverly in the final minutes was able to take advantage
of some defensive breakdowns and scored two. The
Hurricanes were able to stop the Beverly onslaught for
the final minute and squeaked out with the win.
The Hurricanes players are as follows:
Jessica B, Sydney C, Casey C, Rachel L, Kaitlin Mc,
Eliza Q, Sarah R, Sara, S, Mia S, Maddy V, and Hannah V.

vs. Aztec
U-11... L 2-5
The Hurricanes were defeated by the Aztec
U-11 club team but team Huricane showed continued skill
and team development through-out the game.. In the
first half Eliza Q. had the goalie duties and did a
really nice job.. The Hurricanes matched up for much of
the half with the U-11 club team and kept it close right
to the halftime buzzer score 2-1. In the 2nd half the
Aztec's scored 4 soft goals on tender Racheal L. and all
though Marblehead continued to fight through-out the
half the girls were only able to find the Aztec mesh 1
more time.. Final score Aztec's 5 - Hurricanes 2

U-12 HURRICANES
vs. Gloucester...
W-8-1
The team from Gloucester ran into
Marblehead's U-12 Hurricanes on February 6th. and
Gloucester felt the storm. Marblehead took an
early 5-0 lead in the first half. The goals were a
result of solid team work and great communication
between players while on the field. In only the in the
third week since coming together the Marblehead girls
are understanding the concept of team soccer.
In the 2nd half Marblehead used there
goalie advantage to practice their ability to move the
ball back through the defense and between one another.
Gloucester did score 1 goal that was an outstanding
effort by a Gloucester player. shot, missed and then
headed the ball in the goal on the rebound bounce..
Needless to say it was an a very impressive goal.. The
Hurricanes did score three more during the course of the
25 minute half.. Final 8-1 Hurricanes.

LIGHTNING...
W 4-2
On a date that
was circled on many calendars for months, last Wednesday
night’s clash of two Marblehead U-12A Titans team
lightning and hurricanes did not disappoint. Lightning
struck first 5 minutes into the game with a nifty goal
by Lilly E, who somehow found the handle in a crowded
box. Not to be denied, the Hurricanes came roaring
through the building with back to back scores from
Eliza Q.& Sara S.. So the score remained until the
Lightning again defied science by striking in the same
spot thanks to some skilled foot work by Brigitte M.
With the game tied 2-2, both defenses buckled down and
some of the best play this season continued for the next
10 minutes or so, proving that the game can be at its
most exciting even in the absence of goal-scoring. The
goalies on both teams were tremendous, Sydney C & Hannah
V for the Hurricanes and Abby L., along with Allie B for
the Lightning. Eventually, Hurricane winds started to
swirl and reached its crescendo with Sydney C. netting
the game winner with 10 minutes left. Kaitlin M.
benefited from great team wok and a nice assist
delivered by Sarah R. & Mia S. to score the final goal
which gave the Hurricanes some breathing room down the
stretch, as finally, the skies cleared and manna (in the
form of a combined pizza party) fell from the heavens.
Both opposing coaches put a positive spin on the
event with Coach Attridge of the Lightning indicating
his players learned some lessons by playing hard in
spite of the loss, while Coach Butler hopes to carry
some momentum forward into the playoffs and beyond. At
the end of the day, Marblehead soccer was the biggest
winner of all.
